Emergency call: Unnecessary question Print E-mail

New Straits Times (Letters Section)
by Joel Tan Wei Han, Johor Baru

I AM a 16-year-old. On Friday, my friend suddenly had fits while playing soccer.

I called for an ambulance but the operator who answered my call asked a most absurd question. He wanted to know whether my friend was a Malay or Chinese. I simply could not believe my ears.

What is this country turning into? The government is promoting racial harmony and unity, but look what we've got.

I am sure that the majority of Malaysians, like me, would feel outraged at this unprofessional behaviour.

I hope the authorities will look into this and take appropriate action against the operator.
