Police response: Question on race uncalled for and unprofessional Print E-mail
Friday, 21 November 2008

New Straits Times (Letters Section)
by DR R.K.M., Putrajaya

I REFER to the letter from Joel Tan Wei Han of Johor Baru ("Unnecessary question" -- NST, Nov 19) and would like to relate a similar incident involving the police in Putrajaya.

Some months ago, there was a mentally-challenged woman who ran into my clinic claiming her husband was out to kill her.

She scared the patients, removed her tudung, sat on the floor and started to recite prayers.

I called the police and related the story to them. The first question asked by the officer who answered my call was: Dia bangsa apa? (What is her race?)

I wonder how this question helps the police.

I would have accepted if the police had asked me if she was armed or if she had harmed anyone else. But this question was uncalled for and unprofessional.
